Q. What's VMware vExpert and how can I get one?
November 26, 2010
A. VMware's vExpert program is very similar to the Microsoft MVP or Citrix CTP programs. It's intended to highlight groups of well-connected evangelists who speak and write publicly about VMware products, services, and approaches. The vExpert website explains that the recognition is given to individuals who "have significantly contributed to the community of VMware users over the past year. vExperts are book authors, bloggers, VMUG leaders, tool builders, and other IT professionals who share their knowledge and passion with others."
The vExpert is a year-long program, with each awarded individual requiring re-certification into the program every year. As of this writing, nominations are done in the early part of each year with awarding done in early June. Nominations can be by third parties and individuals can also self-nominate. Those who wish to nominate will need to fill out the form found on the website above.
Now in its second year, the vExpert program reduced the number of awardees from its first year. Thus, nominees need to be particularly active in the public forum on VMware-specific topics. Awardees are given private access to VMware communities, special events, and other activities.
