Q. Is there a way to modify my VMware Workstation environment to use an alternate BIOS for a virtual machine (VM) for testing purposes?

A. This is a yes and no answer. Workstation has the ability to specify an alternate BIOS file, but it's experimental and not really supported.

To specify an alternate BIOS, you need to update the bios440.filename attribute in the VM's configuration file to the replacement BIOS file name. For example,

bios440.filename = "newbios.rom"
