A: Microsoft provides three primary solutions to aid in virtual to virtual (V2V) migrations from VMware ESX to Microsoft Hyper-V:

  1. System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2012 has a V2V capability that supports migrating from connected ESX hosts and vCenter servers to Hyper-V and Hyper-V format virtual machines (VMs).

  2. A stand-alone Virtual Machine Convertor Solution Accelerator is available and installs on Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2008 R2, or Windows 7. This offering provides a complete migration including removing the VMware tools from the migrated VMs.

  3. The Virtual Machine Migration Toolkit is available through a Microsoft partner as part of a services engagement that is used for the mass migration of VMs from ESX to Hyper-V. It consists of several technologies from Microsoft and Veeam to migrate hundreds of VMs.

There are also third-party solutions such as Double-Take Move, which enables a very seamless migration.
