Q: What are the database options for IP Address Management in Windows Server 2012 R2?
A: In Windows Server 2012, only the Windows Internal Database can be used by IP Address Management (IPAM). In Windows Server 2012 R2, in addition to the Windows Internal Database, it's also possible to specify an external SQL Server instance that allows the database to be made highly available through SQL capabilities but also enables higher levels of scalability and even reporting. The Windows Internal Database is fine for most organizations, but you should be aware that the SQL Server option is also available.
