Q. What's causing Hyper-V to display error code 0x800704C8, 0x80070037, or 0x800703E3 when I power on a virtual machine (VM)?

A. You might be seeing one of these three error codes when you create a new Hyper-V VM or attempt to power it on. Additionally, you might see VMs disappear from the Hyper-V Management console. The error messages that relate to these three error codes are:
The requested operation cannot be performed on a file with a user-mapped section open. (0x800704C8)
VMName' Microsoft Synthetic Ethernet Port (Instance ID\{7E0DA81A-A7B4-4DFD-869F-37002C36D816\}): Failed to Power On with Error 'The specified network resource or device is no longer available.' (0x80070037).
The I/O operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an application request. (0x800703E3)
The problem related to these three error codes is insidious. It can relate to antivirus software that has been installed on the Hyper-V host. That antivirus software's real-time scanning component may be configured to monitor Hyper-V VM Virtual Hard Disk (VHD) files.
Microsoft recommends that you don't use the real-time scanning component of antivirus software against the following folders and individual files, and they should be excluded from that component:
C:ProgramDataMicrosoftWindowsHyper-V and any custom VM configuration directories.
C:UsersPublicDocumentsHyper-VVirtual Hard Disks and any custom virtual hard disk drive directories.
Any snapshot directories
Vmms.exe and Vmwp.exe
C:Clusterstorage (for servers where Cluster Shared Volumes are enabled)
