Q: If I upgrade in place from Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V to Windows Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V, will I have to delete all my snapshots and saved states?
A: No. The upgrade from Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V to Windows Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V is a much smoother experience than previous upgrades. There's no need to delete snapshots or other saved states.
Simply upgrade the Hyper-V hosts from Server 2012 to Server 2012 R2, making it a very seamless operation. Remember, it's also possible to Live Migrate from Windows Server 2012 to Windows Server 2012 R2, enabling a migration to Windows Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V with no downtime to virtual machines (VMs).
