How to Type the Male Symbol (♂)

You don’t have to go all the way to Mars to find the male symbol (♂) on a PC, Mac, or device running iOS or Android.

Find each quick and easy method below. 

How to Type the Male Symbol in Microsoft Word

When using Microsoft Word on a PC, click the place in your document where you want to insert the male symbol. Hold the Alt key. While holding down the Alt key, use type the number 11 on your numeric keyboard.

Alternatively, access the Icons library in Microsoft Word under the Insert tab and search for “male” in the Icons Search bar.

If you plan on using the male symbol repeatedly in a Microsoft Word document, you can adjust your AutoCorrect settings to automatically replace a word or phrase (such as “male”) with the male symbol. 

How to Insert the Male Symbol on a Mac

On a Mac, you can easily find the male symbol in the Emoji & Symbols library. Simultaneously hold down the Control, Command, and Spacebar keys to open the Character Viewer. In the Character Viewer, type “male” into the search bar. Click on the male symbol that appears in the search results to insert it.

How to Insert the Male Symbol on a Mobile Device

To insert the male symbol using an iPhone or Android device, open a browser app such as Firefox or Safari. In the search bar, type “male symbol” and search for it. Press and hold one of the icons that appears in the search results. Choose “copy” from the menu that appears next to your selection. Tap into the document or text where you want to insert the male symbol and tap “paste” from the menu.
