How to Type the Female Symbol (♀)

Here are instructions for inserting the female symbol or sign (♀) on a PC, Mac, and devices running iOS and Android.

If you are looking to type the female symbol or sign (), there are quick methods for doing so, whether you’re using a PC, Mac, iOS, or Android device.

How to Type the Female Symbol in Microsoft Word

When using Microsoft Word on a PC, click on the location in your document where you would like to insert the female symbol. Hold the Alt key. While holding down Alt, use your numeric keypad to type the number 12 to insert the female icon. 

If prefer another method, you can also find the female symbol in Microsoft Word’s Icons library. Access the Icons library under the Insert tab. In the library, type “female” into the “Search Icons” bar. Click on the symbol from the search results to insert it into your document.

Lastly, if you plan on using the female symbol repeatedly in a Microsoft Word document, you can adjust your AutoCorrect settings to automatically replace a word or phrase (e.g., “female”) with the female symbol. 

How to Insert the Female Symbol on a Mac

On your Mac, you can easily find the female symbol in the Emoji & Symbols library. Hold down the Control, Command, and Spacebar keys simultaneously to open the Character Viewer. In the Character Viewer, type “female” into the search bar. Click on the female symbol that appears in the search results to insert it into your document.

How to Insert the Female Symbol on a Mobile Device

On your mobile device (iOS or Android), open a browser app such as Firefox or Safari. In the browser’s search bar, type “female symbol.” Next, highlight one of the symbols that appear in the search results. Select “Copy”from the menu that appears above the icon. Tap into the text where you want to insert the symbol and select “Paste” from the menu.
