Verisign announced that it acquired security research firm iDEFENSE for $40 million in cash. iDEFENSE provides security-related information to companies around the world and relies in part on data provided by independant security researchers such as those who work to discover vulnerabilities in products.

Verisign intends to move iDEFENSE into the company as a seperate division while integrating its offerings into Verisign's portfolio of managed security services. Verisign will also retain the entire iDEFENSE employee base.
