If you’re one of the many systems admins concerned about the security of your employees’ smartphones or other mobile devices (including USB devices used to transport and store data), this product news will interest you. QuickVault has come up with an add-on product called JumpVault, which claims to provide vault-like data protection for those gadgets. The solution is an add-on product that creates “electronic vaults” with which to safeguard vital, proprietary information and prevent it from falling into the wrong hands in the event of theft or loss.

“JumpVault transforms an ordinary USB flash or mobile device such as a BlackBerry into a secure virtual container,” said Steve White, cofounder of QuickVault. “It’s password-protected and offers the option for metadata logging to track movement of mobile data files.”

JumpVault fully protects information on any mobile storage device with internal flash memory—no matter the file size or type. The product also functions as a backup unit for laptops and workstations often overlooked by enterprise business continuity and disaster-recovery programs. Contracts, proposals, business plans, personal documents, confidential documents, spreadsheets, and legal documents can be protected on mobile storage devices.

Sarbanes-Oxley, Payment Card Industry (PCI), US Health Insurance Accountability and Portability Act (HIPPA) mandate by law that record holders safeguard certain types of information. JumpVault’s data-loss-prevention features protect mobile data from unauthorized access or disclosure.

JumpVault is fully contained on the USB-enabled mobile storage device and operates across a variety of OSs, including Windows Vista and Macintosh.
