Train to Be a Certified Ethical Hacker

New Horizons launched its new Certified Ethical Hacker Program, which aims to certify individuals in ethical hacking from a vendor-neutral perspective.

According to New Horizons, an ethical hacker "is a skilled professional who understands and knows how to look for the weaknesses and vulnerabilities in target systems and uses the same knowledge and tools as a malicious hacker."

The course will take place in an interactive lab environment where students learn how to "scan, test, hack and secure their own systems." Students will learn how perimeter defenses work and about scanning and attacking their own networks. The program includes instruction on escalating privileges, intrusion detection, Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks, buffer overflows, and the creation of viruses.

The course ensures that students "instigate a comprehensive intruder detection process and run regular penetration tests on [their] own network," said Michael Hepburn, network administrator at New Horizons.

Certified Ethical Hacker courses are currently slated for February through June in various locations. An outline of the course is available at the company's Web site.
