Microsoft confirmed on Wednesday that Plus! 98, a companion product forWindows 98, will be on store shelves June 25th along with Windows 98. Plus!98 extends the functionality of Windows 98 with a virus checker and othersystem tools while adding fun features like game demos and more Themes.

"Microsoft Plus! 98 is a natural choice for anyone looking to get the mostout of their Windows 98-based PC," said Yusuf Mehdi, director of Windows marketing, personal business systems group at Microsoft. "With a bevy of new Windows utilities and entertaining desktop themes, Microsoft Plus! 98is the ideal companion to Windows 98."

Plus! 98 includes the following components:

  • McAfee VirusScan with 6 months of free updates.

  • File Cleaner--an addition to the Windows 98 Disk Cleanup tool that suggests files to be deleted.

  • Start Menu Cleaner--an addition to the Windows 98 Maintenance Wizard that removes or fixes broken shortcuts in the Start Menu.

  • Compressed Folders--A ZIP archive tool that integrates with the Shell.

  • New Themes, including such popular cartoon themes as Cathy, Doonesbury, FoxTrot, Garfield and Peanuts as well as Corbis Photography, Architecture, Cityscape, Geometry, Fashion, Science Fiction, Jazz, Photodisc, Rock-n-Roll, World Traveler, Falling Leaves, Windows 98 and Universal's Horror Channel.

  • Direct3D-enhanced Organic Art screen savers.

  • Deluxe CD Player, which automatically downloads CD information from the Internet if desired.

  • Picture It! Express--A basic version of Microsoft's personal imaging software.

  • Game demos, such as Microsoft Golf 1998 Lite, Spider Solitaire, and Lose Your Marbles, from SegaSoft.

Plus! 98 will retail for $44.95, according to Microsoft
