Microsoft continues their march towards the release of the Fall Creators Update for Windows 10 in the September/October timeframe with the release of an updated Software Development Kit (SDK) build for PCs and a new mobile emulator.

These releases match up with last weeks Insider builds that were pushed out to testers for PC and Mobile devices.

The new Windows 10 SDK is Build 16257 and the Mobile Emulator is Build 15235. Both of them can be downloaded from the developer area on the Windows Insider website and they are separate downloads.

There are a couple of notes and known issues around these releases:

-- This build works in conjunction with previously released SDKs and Visual Studio 2017.  You can install this SDK and still also continue to submit your apps that target Windows 10 Creators build or earlier to the store.

-- The Windows SDK will now formally only be supported by Visual Studio 2017 and greater. You can download the Visual Studio 2017 here.

-- Designer fails to render: When viewing the XAML in the Designer Window in Visual Studio, the controls fail to render.  This can be resolved by using Visual Studio 2017.3 Preview.

-- Compilation fails on non-Windows 10 platforms When building apps on previous platforms, you may get a build error.

Further details on those notes are available in the release notes for these builds.

As previously announced, the Windows 10 SDK is feature complete for the Fall Creators Update so fixes in these builds leading up to the final release later this year are focused on bug fixes and performance.
