A:When Citrix XenDesktop VMs are run atop the Hyper-V hypervisor, those VMs can take advantage of the user experience benefits Microsoft RemoteFXprovides. A few other requirements are necessary on each Hyper-V host:

  • The CPUs must support Second Level Address Translation (SLAT). This technology is referred to as EPT (Extended Page Table) on Intel CPUs.

  • The graphics processing units (GPUs) must be identical and must fully support DirectX 9.0c and DirectX 10.0.

  • The GPUs need plenty of RAM, and they must comfortably contain both the Hyper-V machines' console and those of all running sessions.

  • SP1 for Windows 2008 R2 must be installed.

Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008 SP1 is also required to support Machine Creation Services, and user devices must be runningWindows 7 SP1 with the Citrix Receiver for Windows 3.0 client software. More information about these requirements can be found in the Citrix websiteKnowledge Center article "How to Use RemoteFX with XenDesktop 5.5."
