Q: Can Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) be routed?

A: Yes and no. FCoE as a protocol doesn't sit atop the TCP/IP stack, sitting instead directly above the Ethernet protocol. That structure means that FCoE can't be routed across your network in the same manner as you do with traditional TCP/IP networking. FCoE can be routed, however, by using other protocols. Two such protocols are Fibre Channel over IP (FCIP) and Internet Fibre Channel Protocol (iFCP).
