Tip of the week: Get your Windows Phone Update 3 update now!
Those who followed my earlier tip about getting Windows Phone 8 Update 3 early can now download a free update that apparently improves the stability and reliability of the update. (No official word yet on the contents.) Here's how to get it.
Software pick of the week: Angry Birds Go!
A new (and, finally, different) Angry Birds game is finally available on Windows Phone 8. The good news? It's free. The bad news? There are in-app purchases and it requires a device with 1 GB of RAM (which excludes the most popular Windows Phone handsets, like the Lumia 520). I expect a 512 GB version soon. Angry Birds Go! for Windows Phone 8
Enterprise pick of the week: Windows to Go with Windows 8.1 Enterprise
Some new guidance for those wanting to use Windows 8.1 on a USB drive from MSFT's Springboard Series blog: http://blogs.windows.com/windows/b/springboard/archive/2013/12/11/windows-to-go-with-the-windows-8-1-update.aspx
Codename of the week: Ibiza
The next version of Windows Azure Management Portal. This is the second time MS has used the codename
Beer pick of the week: Ommegang Three Philosophers
A quad from the Cooperstown, NY brewers that's definitely one of their flagship beers. Great for the holidays! http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/42/3457
Audible pick of the week: Jaws/Catastrophe 1914
Jaws Unabridged by Peter Benchley, narrated by Erik Steele
Continuing my recent run of books that became blockbuster movies, "Jaws" is a classic, the "Jurassic Park" of the 1970s.
Not cerebral enough? I'm also reading Catastrophe 1914: Europe Goes to War (Unabridged) by Max Hastings and narrated by Simon Vance. Next year is the 100th anniversary of the start of WWI and Hastings is a favorite WWII historian, so his take on the start of WWI is quite interesting.
