Why does the installation process hang when I try to initiate a new Windows XP installation from within Windows 95?

A. The XP installation might hang during the Preparing Installation phase, at which point the installation wizard displays the message

Setup will complete in approximately 52 minutes

Because the XP installation wizard requires more pages during the installation than Win95 typically supports, the installation process might stop responding. To resolve this problem, either install Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) to update the common controls and restart the XP installation or boot the computer from the XP CD-ROM to perform the installation. Machines running Win95 OEM Service Release 2 (SR2) or later won't experience this problem.
