Microsoft Corporation is "astounded" at the success of Windows 98, according to sources inside the company. Weeks after its release, Windows98 is outselling Windows 95 during a similar time period when Win 95 was released in 1995.

"Sales [of Windows 98] continue to exceed our expectations, and our customers seem to be very satisfied with their purchase," said CompUSA VPLarry Mondry.

Windows 98 was widely expected to be a sleeper in the retail channel, though sales of the OS will surpass 100 million within a year because itwill be bundled with over 90% of new computers.
