How do I enable Windows Vista's hidden Aurora startup screen?

A. Instead of the animated Vista startup bar, you can enable the Aurora background image by enabling the quiet boot. You can enable quiet boot via the bcdedit utility, as the following command shows. You must run it from an elevated command prompt (Start, cmd, Run as Administrator):

C:Windowssystem32>bcdedit /set quietboot 1

You can also use the msconfig utility (Start, Run, Msconfig) to enable the Aurora boot screen. Under the Boot tab check the "No GUI boot" option.
