Within 2 weeks of releasing its Commerce Server 2000 product to manufacturing, Microsoft secured several high-profile deployments that lend credibility to the company's e-business plans. Radio Shack, Clarus, Starbucks Coffee, and Henry Schein were among the first companies to use Commerce Server 2000 to deploy their business systems online. Commerce Server 2000 integrates a SQL Server backend with services such as user profiling and management, targeted campaigns and personalization, product and service management, flexible order processing, and business decision support.

"Our early adopters have shown that Commerce Server 2000 delivers the broadest integrated functionality and the fastest time to market for e-commerce systems and e-business analytics," said Microsoft's Chris Atkinson, vice president for .NET Developer Solutions. "The latest of the .NET Enterprise Servers, Commerce Server 2000 enables any company to get to market quickly, optimize its customers' experiences, and empower its business managers to build success into the online business."

Commerce Server is also the foundation for Microsoft's E-Business Acceleration initiative, which the company unveiled last November. E-Business Acceleration is an integrated business-to-business (B2B) initiative for enabling businesses of any size to extend their selling capabilities through multiple Internet-based channels.
