JSI Tip 4458. Swappable drive remains in Windows Xp's My Computer after you remove it?

When you remove a CD-RW device and insert a normal CD-ROM or DVD drive from/to your laptop's device bay, the CD-RW device does NOT disappear from My Computer.

If you try to use the non-existent device, you receive an error.

To work around this behavior, press F5 to refresh My Computer or press Refresh on the View menu.

NOTE: If My Computer is open in Explorer view, a refresh will NOT make the non-existent device disappear from the left Explorer windows.

The preferred method is to close and reopen My Computer.
