JSI Tip 1077. Timeout causes remote icon to display as default and not function.

If you have a shortcut to a remote resource that displays a default icon in Windows NT Explorer, it could be that the remote connection is slow or that the remote server has many shares and is very busy.

You can increase the timeout by using Regedt32 to navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorer

Add Value name NetLinkTimeout as a type REG_DWORD and set the data value, using the Decimal Radix,to 8000, 8 seconds.

Exit the registry editor (and Windows NT Explorer).

If the problem persists, increase the value by decimal 1000, 1 second, until the problem is resolved.

NOTE: Windows NT Explorer will abandon its' attempt to acquire the icon after the timeout period expires.
