JSI Tip 3165. Using Windows 2000, you can't get a DOS program or Command prompt to PRINT SCREEN?

When you press the PRINT SCREEN key from a Command prompt or DOS program, the contents of the desktop is copied to the Clipboard?

NOTE: I literally mean a Command prompt, as apposed to a CMD (native Windows 2000) prompt.

To workaround this problem:

1. Create a shortcut to the MS-DOS program.

2. Right-click the shortcut and press Properties.

3. Select the Misc tab.

4. Clear the PrtSc and Alt+PrtSc check boxes.

5. Press Apply.

6. Press OK.

7. Double-click the shortcut.

8. To use PRINT SCREEN to print on the default printer:

    A. Press and release the ALT key.

    B. Press the PRINT SCREEN key.

NOTE: If you hold the ALT key, PRINT SCREEN will copy the output to the Clipboard.

NOTE: You may have to use this key combination multiple times to get it to print.

NOTE: There is no form-feed.

Some MS-DOS programs, like the MS-DOS Editor, respond to the ALT key. For these programs:

1. Create a .pif file on a W9x computer.

2. Configure it's options.

3. Check the Close Window on Exit box.

4. Copy the .pif to the Windows 2000 computer.

5. Open the Properties of the .pif and change the path and working directory so it points to the file on the Windows 2000 computer.
