How can I control the amount of resource used by the Index service?

A. Left unchecked the Index service can grab most of the CPU timeleaving a computer almost unusable. To configure the service to more reasonablelevels perform the following:
Start the Computer Management MMC snap-in (Start - Programs - Administrative Tools - Computer Management)
Expand the 'Server Applications and Services' branch
Right click on 'Indexing Service' and select Stop
Right click again and select 'Tune Performance' from the 'All Tasks' context menu item
You can now alter the use of Index server and consequently the allotted resources
