WinHTTP 5.1 is now a component in the following operating systems:

  • Windows Server 2003 family.

  • Windows XP, Service Pack 1.

  • Windows 2000, Service Pack 3 (except Datacenter Server)

The tools for WinHTTP 5.1 are not included as a part of the operating system. You can download the WinHTTP 5.1 tools as part of the Windows Server 2003 Resource Kit Tools. The Windows Server 2003 Resource Kit includes the following WinHTTP 5.1 tools:

  • Certificate Configuration Tool (WinHttpCertCfg.exe).

  • Trace Configuration Tool (WinHttpTraceCfg.exe).

Note The Windows Server 2003 Resource Kit Tools only allow you to install the WinHTTP 5.1 tools on Windows Server 2003 and on Windows XP SP1.
WinHTTP 5.1 also includes a proxy configuration tool, Proxycfg.exe. Proxycfg.exe is included with Windows Server 2003. See

Proxy Configuration Tool

NOTE: If you install WinHTTP 5.0 and WinHTTP 5.1 on the same computer, you can also use WinHTTP 5.0 tools with WinHTTP 5.1.
