Windows Server 2012 R2 Update Planned to Keep Step with Windows 8.1 Update 1 Release
Not to be outdone by today's Windows 8.1 Update 1 acknowledgement, Windows Server 2012 R2 will see it's own update.
February 23, 2014
I wrote earlier today about the official Microsoft acknowledgment of Windows 8.1 Update 1, as announced by Joey Belfiore at World Mobile Congress today. You might remember from the 2013 “wave of products,” when the company released a tsunami of major updates across the entire product line. You might also remember that this is Microsoft’s communicated new way forward since all of the products are now dependent upon one another.
Over the past few months, during all the talk about another Windows 8 update, many have wondered (and questioned) if Microsoft would also be updating any other products to match the 2013 releases. Well, expect it.
There will be many more announcements about other products forthcoming, but the Windows Server 2012 R2 team is the first today to state that you can expect an update release for Windows Server 2012 R2 at the same time as the Windows 8.1 Update 1 update. They state that the update will be minor. As of now, they state:
This update to Windows Server 2012 R2 includes minor UI enhancements and bug fixes, as well as previously-released monthly update rollups and security fixes.
They also indicate that better information on what exactly will be included in a “minor” update will be made available closer to the Spring release.
