September's Surface Pro 3 firmware update contains multiple fixes for Wi-Fi problems.
September 10, 2014
One thing we now know about Microsoft's September Updates for its Surface tablets is that the company is still working to fix Wi-Fi issues with the Surface Pro 3.
Wi-Fi problems have plagued the Surface Pro 3 tablet since its release and continual customer complaints have driven Microsoft to release attempts at improvements over many months. Prior to this month, those improvements haven't resulted in a total fix. But, the firmware update released on Tuesday might finally be the panacea. I installed it last night and noticed improvements right away. Sometimes my Wi-Fi connection would disconnect coming out of standby, and thought I've only had a chance to test less than 10 times so far, the Wi-Fi connections has proven to be solid.
Two driver updates in the latest Surface Pro 3 firmware, along with a UEFI upgrade, make this month's update worthwhile.
It also appears that Microsoft is starting to work on the overheating issue that many have complained about for the i7 models. We'll have to wait for customer reports if the Embedded Controller Firmware update is a true fix or not.
Here's the full list of improvements:
Surface Pro 3
Surface Pro UEFI update (v3.10.250.0) improves system experience and enhances overall system stability, including Wi-Fi.
Surface Pro Embedded Controller Firmware update (v38.6.50.0) enhanced support for system performance and user experience, including thermostat icon on boot.
Surface Pro System Aggregator Firmware update (v3.9.350.0) increases the overall system reliability and compatibility with a Surface cover.
Surface Integration driver update (v2.0.1102.0) enhances user experience, including Wi-Fi stability.
Surface Wi-Fi and Bluetooth driver update (v15.68.3055.107) improves Wi-Fi/ Bluetooth reliability and system stability, and significantly enhances the user experience.
The Surface Pro 3 is the only tablet that has received updates this month.
If you install this month's update for the Surface Pro 3 and notice improved Wi-Fi stability, let me know.
