Old School Tech Still the Best to Protect Offline Business and Personal Privacy
There are huge industries that have been created around identity theft, but really there's a simpler solution that I think we forget about.

There's just so many ways to lose private information online. There's a new report of stolen identity almost daily, and the recent outbreak of retail outlets being hacked during the holiday season has to send up alarms about the best ways to protect personal identity. Privacy protection is a numbing topic, for sure. And, it doesn’t help that social media sites like Facebook alter their privacy policies when the wind blows and forget to tell anyone. It's out of control.
There's no sure cure for protecting privacy online, it's really a matter of being vigilant and careful and not allow the numbing effect of repetition to alter your personal security values. There are huge industries that have been created around identity theft, but really there's a simpler solution that I think we forget about.
In an effort to provide a more secure identity environment, one of the things I've been doing recently is storing receipts and other documents in electronic form and then shredding the original documents. If I need those original documents for some odd reason I can pull them up on any device and even print them out.
Over the holidays we snagged the Fellowes Powershred 73Ci. This may be a bit more power than your needs, but Fellowes also offers more personal versions. However, the 73Ci is great for both my business and my family. This thing is a beast and can shred anything. Credit cards, paper clips, staples, CD and DVDs are no problem.
Amazon has the Fellowes Powershred 73Ci for around $170: Fellowes Powershred 73Ci 100% Jam Proof 12-Sheet Cross-Cut Shredder
