Microsoft Unwraps the New OneDrive Single File Upload Limit, Announces New Features

It wasn’t too long ago (September 2) that a few of us noticed that Microsoft had started increasing the single file upload limit for OneDrive. And, as the day progressed, more and more people attempted uploading larger and larger files trying to determine exactly what the new file size upload limit would be.

Yesterday, amid an announcement for other new OneDrive features, Microsoft also finally, officially took the lid off the new single file upload limit. The limit is now 10GB. For businesses that need large data upload capabilities, that’s an awesome improvement and puts OneDrive on par with some of the other Cloud storage vendors.

Some additional improvements announced yesterday:

  • Faster synching for the OneDrive Desktop app. Microsoft suggests a threefold increase in synching speed.

  • Easier sharing from Windows Explorer. Share links to folders and files that are managed by the OneDrive Desktop app. This will rollout to Windows 7 and Windows 8 users in the coming weeks, and then for Windows 8.1 and Mac.

  • Entire folder uploads are now capable using the OneDrive web app (OneDrive.com).
