Microsoft Intune Getting Big Updates This Week

As promised, Microsoft will being delivering a bevy of updates to Microsoft Intune this week. Starting today and running through Wednesday, Microsoft is updating the Intune service with its biggest update in a while. This week won't set the record for updates, but it will definitely set the record for major enhancements as the company continues building a Cloud-focused management system like no other.

Microsoft is a bit late to the hosted-management game, but it's clear that the company is dedicating resources to catch up and catch up quickly. At the end of this week and per a blog post today, Microsoft Intune customers can expect the following new features:

  • Enhanced user interface for Intune administration console

  • Ability to restrict access to Exchange on-premises email based upon device enrollment

  • Bulk enrollment of devices using a single service account

  • Lockdown of Supervised iOS devices and devices using Samsung KNOX with Kiosk mode

  • Targeting of policies and apps by device groups

  • Ability to report on and allow or block a specific set of applications

  • Enforcement of application install or uninstall

  • Deployment of certificates, email, VPN and WiFi profiles

  • Ability to push free store apps to iOS devices

  • More convenient access to internal corporate resources using per-app VPN configurations for iOS devices

  • Remote pin reset for Windows Phone 8.1 devices

  • Multi-factor authentication at enrollment for Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1 devices

  • Ability to restrict administrator access to a specific set of user and device groups

  • Updated Company Portal apps to support customizable terms and conditions

Additionally, this week's update will finally rebrand the service. Microsoft officially renamed Windows Intune to Microsoft Intune on October 8th, and follows a similar rebranding for Azure in March of this year. The rebranding makes a lot of sense, considering Microsoft Intune manages more than just Windows. Microsoft Intune supports managing devices for all the most popular platforms including iOS and Android.
