Microsoft August Updates: Redo Part 2

Hoping to make August just a bad, bad memory, Microsoft has now rereleased each update that caused so many customer pains in last month's Patch Tuesday.

Last week, Microsoft tested the patching waters, by rereleasing an update (under a different name) that seemed to bring with it some additional problems. Customers from all over immediately started reporting the inability to automatically check for updates. Interestingly, that problem was resolved by modifying DNS settings on the computers, with most choosing to point to Google's DNS servers to fix the issue.

With September now in full swing, and yet another Patch Tuesday cycle coming next week, Microsoft is hoping the latest round of rereleases helps clear to board so it can focus on this month's delivery.

For those using Windows Update to patch, the updated releases should deliver normally, as long as automatic updating is fixed (see the DNS fix above). For those tasked with delivering the updates through corporate patching mechanisms, here's the links for the updated releases:

KB2970228 - Update to support the new currency symbol for the Russian ruble in Windows

KB2975331 - August 2014 update rollup for Windows RT, Windows 8, and Windows Server 2012

KB2975719 - August 2014 update rollup for Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2
