Endpoint Protection Platform Update Now Available, Releases Early
Released today, the latest platform update brings some enhancements worth noting.
April 3, 2014
Microsoft originally intended to release the latest platform update for the anti-malware engine of Endpoint Protection on April 8, 2014 (Patch Tuesday). But, when you consider how much is exactly releasing on that day, it's great to see that the update is available sooner.
Released today, the latest platform update brings some enhancements worth noting.
First, the update will change the way future platform updates are delivered. After this update is applied, new updates will be distributed through Microsoft Update.
Second, as I talked about late last month, the update will change the way Endpoint Protection handles operating systems that are reaching end of life to help avoid another Windows XP scenario. If you use Endpoint Protection, you really need to be aware of this change specifically. Read about the full impact here: Microsoft Endpoint Protection Modified with Warnings and Service Stoppage for OS End-of-Life.
The platform update is available as a downloadable hotfix by request. To get it, drop out to the following page:

OK, so think about it: On April 8, 2014, Windows XP and Office 2003 expires, Windows 8.1 Update 1 releases, and that's not even considering that the normal round of Patch Tuesday security updates will also be releasing.
Busy, busy day.
