Are you Ready to Retire ConfigMgr 2007 Tomorrow?

3 weeks ago I warned you about the pending deadline for support for System Center Configuration Manager 2007. Based on a survey we held over at myITforum.com, the majority (60%) of ConfigMgr customers are sitting pretty on the 2012 R2 version. However, at the time, there were around 18% surveyed still running a 2007 version.

So, how are you doing? Have you had enough time to make the move? Hopefully, you have because tomorrow, July 8th, marks the end of mainstream support for all versions of ConfigMgr 2007.

I was shocked to hear how many admins of Windows XP were totally surprised when April 8, 2014 arrived and the 12 year old operating system exited supportability, so I think it's worth mentioning again that ConfigMgr 2007 is retired tomorrow. And, just like Windows XP, the deadline doesn't mean that ConfigMgr 2007 won't continue to be used in an unsupported state, but I believe it's also important to provide resource to those ConfigMgr 2007 admins who need help migrating to ConfigMgr 2012 R2. So, here's a few resources to help you get started with your migrations and to continue to get real-world support during your migrations:

Configuration Manager Email Support List – Hugely popular, the subscriber based is around 6,000 members and has been running since the early days of SMS (1997). It's a high volume list, but you can get an answer to a problem in minutes, 24 hours a day.

Configuration Manager Forums – The forums are a great place to search for existing solutions or to post questions. You can't expect as quick a response as from the email list, but with over 37,000 registered users and almost 149,000 posts, there's a lot of useful information. The forums have been running since 2001.

IT/Dev Connections 2014 – The event with a difference. A week-long conference in-depth heavy with Configuration Manager content.
