When you attempt to share a file on Windows XP, you receive:

Error: Server service not started

When you attempt to start the server service (Lanmanserver), it fails to start and you receive:

Error 126: The specified module cannot be found.

This behavior will occur if the Srvsvc.dll library is missing or corrupted.

To fix this problem:

1. Holding the SHIFT down to prevent installation, insert the Windows XP CD in your CD-ROM drive.

2. Open a CMD.EXE window.

3. Type the following command and press Enter:

expand i386srvsvc.dl_ %systemroot%system32srvsvc.dll

Where is the drive letter of your CD-ROM drive.

4. Shutdown and restart Windows XP.
