JSI Tip 9961. A TCP/IP session that is inactive for more than one minute is disconnected when you connect to a terminal server from a Windows Server 2003 SP1 computer?

When you are logged onto the console of a Windows Server 2003 SP1 computer, and make an outgoing connection through an ISA Server 2000, to a Windows Server 2003 Terminal Server (or to a TCP/IP application), inactivity for more than one minute may cause disconnection by the ISA Server 2000 computer.

NOTE: You may not notice the disconnection if your Terminal Server client automatically reconnects.

This behavior is caused when the NAT (Network Address Translation) mappings on the ISA Server 2000 incorrectly time out.

To workaround this behavior, upgrade to ISA Server 2004, or configure the TCP/IP session to display the system clock, which should cause enough traffic to defeat the timeout.
