When you attempt to create a DFS link that points to a folder that is under a volume mount point, you receive:

The following error occurred while creating the DFS Link: The specified path is invalid.

Your System event log may contain an error similar to:

Event Type: Error Event
Source: DfsSvc
Event Category: None
Event ID: 14503
Date: MM/DD/YYYY
Time: HH:MM:SS
User: N/A
Computer:
Description: Dfs could not create reparse point for share Path_Name mapped to directory ??Drive_NameFolder_Name. The return code is in the record data. Data: 0000: 000000a1

This behavior occurs because Windows Server 2003 DOES NOT SUPPORT creating a DFS link from a folder that is under a volume mount point.

To workaround this problem, attach to disks by using spanned volumes.
