Install Hardware
To use Fax Services, you need a fax modem. Follow your fax modem manufacturer's instructions to install your fax modem hardware in your server computer. When the hardware is installed, you can then install Fax Services.

Install Fax Services
Log in to your Windows 2000 Server-based computer with yoursystem administrator account.
Click Start, point toSettings, and then click ControlPanel.
Double-click Add/Remove Hardware, and thenclick Next.
Click Add/Troubleshoot a device, and thenclick Next. Wait for Windows to complete the search for newPlug and Play hardware devices.
In the Hardware Detected dialog box, clickto select your modem in the list of found hardware, and then clickNext.
Click Finish to close the Add/ RemoveHardware Wizard.

Configure Fax Services
Use Fax Service Management to:
Set up your fax device to receive faxes.
Set security permissions.
Set the number of rings before the fax is answered and thenumber of retry attempts before the fax send is stopped.
Fax Service Management helps you manage fax devices on your local computer or on other computers on your network. To configure Fax Services:
Click Start, point toSettings, click Control Panel, and thendouble-click Fax.
Click the Advanced Options tab, and thenclick Open Fax Service Management Console.
In the left pane of Fax ServiceManagement, click Devices.
In the right pane of Fax ServiceManagement, right-click your fax modem, and then clickProperties.
On the General tab, select the optionsthat you want to use and click to clear the options that you do not want touse.
Enable Send: Select this check box to send faxes. This is selected by default. The transmitting station identifier (TSID) is a transmitter subscriber ID that is sent by the fax machine when it sends faxes. This ID is typically a combination of the fax or telephone number and the name of the business.
Enable Receive: Select this check box to receive faxes. The called subscriber ID (CSID) is the ID that is transmitted by the receiving fax machine when it receives an inbound fax. This subscriber ID is typically a combination of the fax or telephone number and the name of the business. It is frequently the same as the TSID.
Rings Before Answer: Type the number of rings to allow before the Fax Service answers a call. Fax transmissions are answered automatically.
Click Apply, and then clickOK.

Set the Destination for Received Faxes
The destination for a received fax can be a printer, a folder, or an e-mail recipient. To set the destination for a received fax:
In the left pane of Fax ServiceManagement, click Devices.
In the right pane of Fax ServiceManagement, right-click your fax modem, and then clickProperties.
Click the Received Faxes tab.
Under Do this when I receive a fax, selectone or more destinations for the received faxes:
Print on: Select this check box to print faxes as they are received. You may change the specified printer. The Print on check box is unavailable if you do not have a printer specified on your computer.
Save in folder: Select this check box to save faxes in the specified folder. You may change the specified folder.
Send to local e-mail inbox: Select this check box to send faxes to a local inbox. For Profile Name, select a profile name from the drop-down menu.The Send to local e-mail inbox check box is for use with a MAPI-enabled client (Microsoft Outlook, or Microsoft Exchange 5.5 or later). To use this feature, Fax Services must first be configured to log on to a user account that is a member of the Administrators group on the computer. Click Apply, and then clickOK.

Set Permissions for Fax Service Management
To manage who can use Fax Services and what they can do with it:
In the left pane of Fax ServiceManagement, right-click Fax Service on LocalComputer, and then click Properties.
Click the Security tab.
In the Name box, click the name of a useror group whose Fax Service security permissions you want to set.
In the Permission box, click to selecteither Allow or Deny to change the followingpermissions:
Submit fax jobs: User or group can send faxes.
View fax jobs: User or group can view jobs in the fax queue.
View fax service: User or group can view properties for fax.
View fax devices: User or group can view properties for fax devices in Fax Service Management.
Manage fax jobs: User or group can pause or cancel all jobs in the fax queue.
Manage fax services: User or group can change Fax Service Management properties.
Manage fax devices: User or group can turn on or off send and receive for a device.
Click Apply, click OK,and then close the Fax Service Management window.
Note Anyone can view Fax Service Management settings, but you must bea system administrator or have administrator credentials to makechanges.
