A. Microsoft released a proxy server installation add-on that you must use to install Microsoft Proxy Server 2.0 on the Windows 2000 (Windows NT 5.0) beta. The file is msp2x86a.exe, and you can download it fromhttp://www.microsoft.com/proxy/default.asp.

To install Proxy Server 2.0, complete the following steps:

  1. Close all Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-ins prior to running the Update Wizard.

  2. Start the msp2x86a.exe wizard.

  3. Click Yes to the license agreement.

  4. Insert BackOffice 4.0 CD-ROM 3, and click Continue.

  5. The installation will continue as normal.

If you upgrade an NT Server 4.0 system on which Proxy Server 2.0 is already installed to an NT Server 5.0 system, you need to complete the next steps after installing NT 5.0 Beta 2:

  1. Close all MMC snap-ins prior to running the Update Wizard.

  2. Start the msp2x86a.exe wizard.

  3. Click Yes to the license agreement.

  4. Insert BackOffice 4.0 CD-ROM 3, and click Continue.

  5. The installation will then continue as normal.

  6. When you run the Upgrade Wizard, your only option is to perform a fresh install even though you already have an installed proxy server. Select this option, and proceed with setup. Your previous configuration will be properly retained.

To uninstall Proxy Server 2.0, use the Uninstall command on the Proxy menu. Running uninstall from Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel applet fails because the program searches for the installation files in the (now deleted) temporary location that the Update Wizard created. Always back up your server before performing any of the actions described above.
