I've now received word from three separate sources close to Microsoft that the Beta 3 release of Windows 2000--originally slated for release on April 21st, less than a week from now--has slipped a week to April 28th.
As for the reason for the delay, no one seems sure. It's been suggested that the company wants this release to be as good as possible because it will be going out to such a wide audience: The Beta 3 release will be made available publicly for $59 from the Microsoft Web site and selected PC makers will offer it with their PCs beginning April 26th. The delay isn't expected to affect the final release of Windows 2000, which is still on schedule for the first week of October.
