SysInternals readies NTFS for Windows 98

Thanks to the intrepid editors at Beta Bites for the tip. Mark Russinovich and Bryce Cogswell of SysInternals are now providing the beta release of NTFS for Windows 98, a file system driver that allows users of Windows 95 and Windows 98 to access volumes formatted with the NTFS file system used in Windows NT and Windows 2000. This incredible tool (that frankly should be provided by Microsoft anyway) allows users of dual-boot systems to access NTFS drives by simulating the Windows NT environment the NTFS driver is written to use. So NTFS for Windows 98 doesn't attempt to reverse engineer NTFS, introducing potential bugs: Instead, it uses the NFTS system files that Microsoft has already provided.

As you might expect, this is a brilliant approach. The beta version of this utility offers full read and write capabilities until October 31, 1999. After that, you must purchase the registered version.
