Q. How can I create a password protected ZIP file with Windows 7 and above?

A. In Windows XP it was possible to create password protected Zip files however this functionality was removed in Windows 7. To create a password protected ZIP file it is necessary to use a 3rd party application. A good free option is 7-zip which can be downloaded from http://7-zip.org/download.html. Once installed the option to create a password protected ZIP file will be available. Note that the new ZIP features of PowerShell 5 also do not support password protected ZIP files.
