Windows 10 Tip: Finding Lockscreen Images in the File System

Windows 10 has deep ties to the cloud, for sure, but there’s still quite a bit of the operating system that has to reside in local folders for things to work when offline. One of those pieces are the Lockscreen images. You might find that a certain Lockscreen image suits your fancy better than the others and want to incorporate it into other places in Windows 10. So, how do you access them?

The Lockscreen images are located in a special directory, at:

%LocalAppData%PackagesMicrosoft.Windows.ContentDeliveryManager_cw5n1h2txyewyLocalStateAssets

All of the files located in this directory are image files, they’re just not named as such.

For safety, copy the files outside of their original location to another folder somewhere that you have created. Then, just rename each file using the .jpg extension. You can then open them in any image application.
