Windows 10 SDK Preview available for Windows 10 Build 10158

We mentioned last week that Microsoft planned to speed up the delivery of the Windows 10 Software Development Kit (SDK) with a new release alongside each new Windows 10 Insider Preview release.

I am not sure the SDK team expected the Windows team to release two builds on consecutive days but this new SDK, for Windows 10 Build 10158 which was released on Monday, will work with the 10159 build of Windows 10 that was released on Tuesday.

To briefly recap – with the preview releases of the Windows 10 SDK, we are matching each OS flight delivered to Windows Insiders in the Fast ring.  When running the latest preview SDK and emulator in your local development environment, your apps will be able to access the latest Windows capabilities and APIs available in the preview build. Each preview SDK release installs side by side of the official Windows 10 tooling for Visual Studio 2015. If you want to try out the newest features and have the latest bug fixes delivered in a Windows Insider Preview release, this is for you – each release is a snapshot of work in progress, so expect functionality or APIs to be impacted and that final functionality may vary.

According to Microsoft there are several properties and method signature changes in this release plus some new APIs were added. You can read the entire list at Building Apps for Windows - Windows 10 SDK Preview Build 10158 Released.

Interestingly one of those new additions is support for OEMs and IHVs to access new  cameras with depth, infrared and color hardware and subsequently designate that camera to be used with Windows Hello and its facial recognition capabilities.

You can download this updated SDK at the Windows 10 Developer Tools page.

But, wait...there's probably more so be sure to follow me on Twitter and Google+.
