Windows 10 receives multiple security related updates
Microsoft has released five security related updates for Windows 10 builds 10074 and 10122.
No doubt that almost four million hearts skipped a beat when the Ring Master, Gabe Aul, tweeted that there were some updates for Windows 10 and Insiders should open up the Windows Insider app on Windows 10 to see what they are about.
I am sure many headed into Windows 10 hoping for an OS update however, that was not the case as the Windows team is just taking care of the security of your preview install.
Here is a list of the four updates they have published in Windows Update for the technical preview:
An update rollup for Windows Server Technical Preview 2 (KB3065331) - Build 10074. The knowledge base web page is unavailable as of this posting. Will update this once it is live.
Cumulative security update for Internet Explorer (KB3049563) - Build 10074/10122. This security update resolves several reported vulnerabilities in Internet Explorer. The most severe of these vulnerabilities could allow remote code execution if a user views a specially crafted webpage in Internet Explorer. To learn more about the vulnerabilities, see Microsoft Security Bulletin MS15-043. Additionally, this security update includes several non-security-related fixes for Internet Explorer. Check out the deployment information.
Vulnerabilities in Windows could allow elevation of privilege (KB3049576) - Build 10122. This security update resolves vulnerabilities in Windows. These vulnerabilities could allow elevation of privilege if an attacker logs on to the system and runs a specially crafted application. To exploit these vulnerabilities, an attacker would first have to log on to the system. The security update addresses the vulnerabilities by correcting how Windows validates impersonation events.
Vulnerability in Windows Journal could allow remote code execution (KB3046002) - Build 10122. This security update resolves vulnerabilities in Microsoft Windows. The vulnerabilities could allow remote code execution if a user opens a specially crafted Journal file. Users whose accounts are configured to have fewer user rights on the system could be less affected than users who have administrative user rights.
These updates will download automatically or you can manually check Windows Update for them.
But, wait...there's probably more so be sure to follow me on Twitter and Google+.
