Windows 10 Creators Update Now Fully Available for Compatible Devices

Yesterday, Microsoft announced that the Windows 10 Creators Update, which has been undergoing a very targeted roll out since its release in April of this year, is now ready for all eligible devices running Windows 10.

Any users who have not yet received the update should be able to go into Windows Update and check for this upgrade. An alternative would be to use the Windows 10 Update Assistant and get the update immediately.

Of course, there are a few exceptions to the eligible devices list based on recent reports and confirmation from Microsoft that some Windows 8/8.1 era devices running Clover Trail processors from Intel will not be getting the Windows 10 Creators Update.

That means the final feature update for these devices will be the Anniversary Update - Windows 10 Version 1607 - which was released in August 2016.

In fact, initially Microsoft indicated those devices would not be supported beyond the normal 18 month support window for the feature update however, they have since committed to providing security updates for those devices on the Anniversary Update until 2023.

This throws a wrench into Microsoft's Windows as a Service (WaaS) process and their efforts to to keep Windows 10 users on versions of the operating system that are less than 18 months old. Note: Under WaaS, feature updates to Windows 10 are ony supported for a period of 18 months.

If you happen to be on a device that is not compatible with the Windows 10 Creators Update because of Clover Trail processors, you will get a clear system notification that you can not proceed with the upgrade.

So, have you received the Creators Update yet or are you on an unsupported device?
