Insiders must update to Windows 10 Build 10240 for continued access to Windows Store

Although they did not use the term mandatory if Insiders do not update to Windows 10 Build 10240 soon they will lose access to the Windows Store. That pretty much equals a useless operating system.

Insiders must update to Windows 10 Build 10240 for continued access to Windows Store

Microsoft has informed its Windows Insiders that they are required to update their pre-release Windows 10 installations to Build 10240 in order to retain use of the Windows Store.

The announcement, which was delivered through the Insiders Hub, states the mandatory upgrade to 10240 is necessary due to changes in the Windows Store on the soon to be released operating system.

"The Windows 10 Store team has been making some great fixes and improvements to reliability and performance. To ensure you are able to benefit from these important updates, starting July 24 we will be requiring Insiders who are not running the latest Windows 10 operating system to upgrade their PC; otherwise those affected will be unable to experience the Windows 10 Store. Check Windows Update to make sure you have installed the latest build and the most recent updates."

Just in case you had not taken a look at your calendar - today is the 24th of July - time to get updated to 10240.

While a lack of a functioning Windows Store will not bring your Windows 10 system to a halt it will prevent you from installing any app updates.

At this point in Windows 10 development the apps are getting updated almost as often as the OS is so getting them is kind of important too.

Once you are on build 10240 you can verify that you are also on the latest version of the Windows Store by going to Settings in the store and towards the bottom of the page you will see the current store build number.

It should read 2015.7.22.2 or higher.

But, wait...there's probably more so be sure to follow me on Twitter and Google+.
