Fixing Mail, Calendar and People for Windows 10 Build 10041

Yesterday afternoon Microsoft finally delivered its next Build for Windows 10. And, while many complained more about the features that are missing instead of the ones that are included, some also noted that the Mail, Calendar, and People apps are broken. Microsoft knew about this beforehand and included a fix in its release announcement.

Here's what to do to fix it:

  1. Run Windows PowerShell as an administrator.

  2. Run the following PowerShell command: Get-appxprovisionedpackage –online | where-object {$_.packagename –like “*windowscommunicationsapps*”} | remove-appxprovisionedpackage –online

  3. Reinstall Mail, People, and Calendar located in the old store (not the new, beta version).
