Change Windows 10 logon background

Q. How can I change the Windows 10 logon background?

A. It is not possible to change the logon wallpaper for Windows 10 using a supported method. The only configuration is to configure no wallpaper to be displayed and instead a solid color used. To stop the windows logo as the background perform the following:

  1. Start the registry editor (regedit.exe)

  2. Move to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREPoliciesMicrosoftWindowsSystem

  3. Create a new DWORD value named DisableLogonBackgroundImage of type DWORD

  4. Set the new value to 1 and click OK

There are some free utilities that modify the image stored in C:WindowsSystemResourcesWindows.UI.LogonWindows.UI.Logon.pri however with the new Windows as a Service frequent branch updating any changes to standard Windows files can easily be undone at the next branch update so modifying this file is not recommended.
