Testing VMware Workstation 7.0

It has been awhile since I used this product and I forgot how much I liked it. Running a desktop test environment with Workstation is a quite a bit easier than Hyper-V which I usually use. My normal setup is running WS2008R2 in desktop mode with the Hyper-V role installed. Great for a lab but it doesn’t travel well.

A couple of cool features in Workstation 7 that I thought I would share are the ability to run ESXi in a VM and the new 3D graphics support. Vista and Windows 7 VMs have the ability to support 3D graphics including Aero in the VMs. Under Windows 7 Workstation also supports VM thumbnails in the taskbar. Pretty cool.
