Q. Does VMware ThinApp use an agent on the client computer?

A. No, there's no agent for ThinApp. The executable created by the ThinApp sequencing environment contains all the virtualized layer information required to launch the application, and the ThinApp sandbox environment as well.

Citrix and Microsoft use a cache for their application virtualization solutions, but VMware streams the registry and file system and caches everything in memory. It pulls down a lot less data (i.e. 50MB instead of 500MB for something like Microsoft Office). Nothing is stored on the PC. All user settings are stored in a local sandbox that stores small amounts of customizations but is typically less than 5MB.
